How Do I Help My Grieving Friend?

Viewer question: Becky writes: "My friend's father passed away last night. She is back east with her family and I can't go to the funeral. The only relative I have lost is my grandfather. Her father was only in his 50's and I can't imagine the pain she's feeling. How can I be a good friend to during this time? What can I say or do? Please give me some sound advice.
