Gates Foundation Breaks Ground On New Headquarters
Across from Space Needle

July 22, 2008, 9:02 AM PDT

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is breaking ground on its new headquarters across the street from the Space Needle.

The world's largest charitable foundation hopes to occupy its new Seattle headquarters in late 2010.

The campus will be big enough to house 1,200 employees. It will have an interactive museum that tells of the foundation's work.

Officials say the two intersecting, V-shaped buidings with a private, landscaped courtyard symbolize the organization's connection to Seattle and its efforts to reach out to the people around the world.
