The city of Seattle moved closer to join a
growing number of cities that have imposed fees on the use of
plastic and paper bags in grocery stores. On Tuesday, the
Environment Committee voted to move the legislation to a full
council vote next week. The proposed law would enact a 20 cent
charge per plastic bag used at a grocery store, after a 90-day
awareness campaign.
