Rescued Seal Pup On The Mend
July 27, 2008, 10:20 PM PDT
FRIDAY HARBOR, WA —
A local animal group is taking care of a baby seal tonight.
The pup was found Friday night in a car that was pulled over for running a red light in Coupeville.
Authorities are still investigating just why the woman driving the car had the seal inside.
The pup is now in the care of the Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rescue Center in Friday Harbor. The staff there is treating the seal pup for dehydration.
They named her "Concho", and think she's four or five days old and had been out of the water for about 36 hours.
After a shaky start, "concho's" condition is doing much better tonight.
Tristan Joy who works at the rescue center says, "She is active. She is very alert, making noise , moving around in her tub. She's just great."
Wildlife officials are reminding people not to touch baby seals, even if they look abandoned.
The pups are left alone on the beach by their mothers while they are out looking for food.
