During this time of year, weddings are happening and babies are being born, and what better idea for a shower gift than to make for the host, handmade party mints. These old-fashioned recipes of days gone by bring back the art of mint-making. It is fun, easy, and very affordable. Best of all, you will be making something that is almost impossible to find -- unless of course you can find a candy company or someone with the "original" recipe
willing to make them (but be prepared to pay a pretty penny).
Traditional Mints:
Ingredients:
1 box confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
7 drops of coloring
7 drops of mint oil (you can use any kind of mint; peppermint, spearmint)
1 can evaporated milk
Directions: Mix with fork until all of the mixture is moist, add 2 ½ to 3 tablespoons evaporated milk, mix all ingredients by hand until workable, put into molds, pop out onto wax paper, and freeze.
Cream Cheese Mints:
Ingredients:
¼ of 8-ounce package of cream cheese
1/8 teaspoon oil of peppermint
1 2/3 cups confectioners' sugar
Color
Directions:
Mash cream cheese, add flavor, color and mix in sugar. Knead with hands to pie-dough consistency; roll in marble-size balls. Place on side into small amount of granulated sugar; press sugar side into mold; remove from mold at once; store in refrigerator.
I like to take the mints and put them in small organza drawstring bags and decorate them. They make great individual gifts to be handed out as party favors.
Have fun minting…and remember…
YOU CAN DO IT !
